Getting to Val Thorens
If you’ve skied in the Alps, you’ve probably heard of Chambery Airport. Yes, it’s the closest, but let me tell you, we’ve had some not-so-great experiences there—like being kicked out of a taxi in a snowstorm and left to haul gear to the train station. Fun, right?
Instead, we recommend flying into Geneva. It’s a little further, but trust me, it’s worth it for the reliability and fewer headaches. Plus, if the weather’s too bad to fly, you shouldn’t be skiing anyway. 😉 Take the transfer time on the chin and enjoy a smoother trip.
Staying in Val Thorens
Val Thorens is ski-in/ski-out heaven, so no matter where you stay, you’re never far from the slopes. One of our favorites is Fahrenheit Seven—prime location, great vibes, and an epic sun terrace for après. Their pizzas are spot-on, and the breakfast buffet will have you fueled for the day.
Ski Lifts in Val Thorens
Mornings can be hectic, especially during ski school drop-off. If you’re in the rush, go for Plein Sud (though busy, it’s the fastest way up). From there, hit the 3 Vallées Lift to avoid the chaos.
On cloudy or snowy days, head to Cascades for some shelter. It’s a lifesaver when the weather closes in.
For full-day skiing, make the trek to Courchevel! It’s not as hard or far as people think—well-connected lifts and runs make it a breeze.
