Resort Guide

Morzine

I am going to give a special mention to a few companies, bars, and restaurants in this blog. I want to be transparent I have no affiliation, discount or have been paid off to mention them, haha, these recommendations are all from our trips and experiences with have had with them

How to Get to Morzine

A trip to the mountains is always a gamble with transport and weather, but choosing Geneva Airport as your entry point minimizes the risks. It’s only a 90-minute transfer to Morzine, making it one of the most accessible resorts in the Alps.

Skip Chambéry Airport

If you’ve ever been to Chambéry, you’ll know what I mean. Cancelled flights, endless delays, and too many chaotic experiences—trust me, it’s not worth it. Geneva might involve a slightly longer transfer, but the reliability and convenience make it the obvious choice.

Transfers from Geneva

We recommend Skiidy Gonzales for your transfer. Look for the drivers in massive sombreros—impossible to miss! Pro tip: skip the overpriced drinks in the arrivals café. Instead, head left down the terminal to the supermarket for sandwiches, snacks, and cold beers for the road.

The Resort: Two Sides to Morzine

Morzine is essentially split into two areas:

Pleney Side: Perfect for beginners and intermediates, with plenty of fun and manageable runs.

Avoriaz Side: A massive ski area that connects you to Switzerland. It offers everything from easy greens to challenging reds and blacks, including the infamous Swiss Wall for those feeling brave (or reckless).

Getting Around

A free motorized train runs between the Super Morzine Lift and Pleney Lift every 5-10 minutes. It’s super convenient and only takes about 5-10 minutes. There’s also a train to Les Gets that drops you at Mont Chéry—a hidden gem on powder days, always quiet and untouched.

Mountain Lunch Stops in Morzine

L’Passage

Located at the top of the Super Morzine lift, this is one of our absolute favorites. The burger and Nutella crepe are must-orders, and the staff always make you feel welcome. Non-skiers can easily reach it by lift, making it ideal for mixed groups. The sun terrace is perfect for sunny days, and there’s a cozy fire inside if the weather turns.

Le Vaffieu

You’ll find this gem at the top of the Belvedere Lift. Accessible to skiers and non-skiers alike, it’s an excellent spot for fondue or other Savoyard specialties. Pair it with their house wine, and you’re set for a memorable lunch. It also doubles as a fantastic après spot on your way home.

Mamos

Located in Lindarets, this family-run restaurant is all about cozy vibes and incredible burgers (we’re big fans of the Jackson burgers). If you’re looking for something lighter, their goat cheese salad is also excellent. After a late lunch here, ski down to the Ardent Lift and head straight to Happy Hours Bar to keep the après going.

La Païka

Over on the Les Gets side, La Païka is known for its outdoor BBQ grill serving fresh meats and seafood. The ribs and steaks are highlights, and their house red wine is a great pairing. The terrace is stunning, but getting back to Morzine requires navigating a button lift—plan accordingly if you’re not a fan.

Chez Nannon

Perfect for a quick snack, coffee, or warm-up. While we haven’t sat down for a full meal here, the restaurant is highly rated, and their menu looks tempting.

Les Marmottes

Located on the Swiss side of the PDS in Champéry, this restaurant is worth the trip. The terrace offers stunning views, and their French specials never disappoint. Pro tip: ask for chicken nuggets with your fondue—they’ll usually oblige if you ask nicely.

Après Ski in Morzine

Bec Jaune Brewery

This brewery is a standout. With 3-4 home-brewed beers on tap, plus cocktails and bubbly for non-beer drinkers, there’s something for everyone. Their beer-battered pickles, nachos, and burger are perfect for soaking up the drinks. Make sure to book ahead, as it gets busy during après.

Le Coup de Coeur

A classy spot with a cozy indoor area and heated outdoor seating. They offer a fantastic wine selection and bring out small plates during après. The chalk ceiling is a fun touch—just don’t stand on the table while drawing (learn from our mistakes!).

Haka Bar

A small but lively sports bar in the center of town. It’s perfect for catching a big game or just relaxing after a day on the slopes. If you’re hungry, head next door to O Chalet for loaded chips and burgers that are downright addictive.

Tremplin Hotel

Located at the base of the Pleney side, this is our pick for the best après bar in Morzine. It’s always buzzing, with live DJs or bands most afternoons. Ski straight to the bar (just don’t attempt a fancy hockey stop after a liquid lunch—it won’t end well). Reservations are recommended.

Happy Hours Bar

Situated at the bottom of the Ardent Lift, this place goes off! Ski practically into the bar, enjoy the high-energy atmosphere, and then hop on the bus or get picked up by your chalet driver. It’s a must-visit for anyone looking to let loose after a day on the slopes.

Dinner in Morzine

 L’Etale

A classic. They do everything well, from cheesy French dishes to thin, crispy pizzas. The hot stone platters are perfect for sharing, and the house red wine flows easily. Wear layers—it gets hot in here, especially after a couple of glasses of wine.

La Chaudanne

Similar to L’Etale but with a heavier focus on Savoyard specialties. Their wine bar downstairs is ideal for pre- or post-dinner drinks.

Le Tyrolien

If you’re looking for takeaway pizza, this is the spot. Perfect for a relaxed night in your chalet after a long day on the slopes.

Gear Rentals

All Mountain Rental

Jamie and his team are the best in Morzine for equipment hire. You can book online, request specific skis, and even have the gear delivered to your door. For first-timers, we recommend heading to the shop to try on boots—you don’t want sore feet ruining your week.

Final Tips

Book Ahead: Both for restaurants and gear, to avoid disappointment.

Avoid Peak Lunch Hours: Go for a late lunch to skip the crowds and enjoy quieter slopes.

Explore: Take the train to Les Gets or venture into Switzerland for some variety.

Morzine offers everything you could want from a ski resort—amazing runs, fantastic food, lively après, and a welcoming vibe. If you have any questions or need more tips, drop me an email at info@waxx.co.uk. Have fun and ski safe! 🎿🍷
