How to Get to Méribel
You’ve got a few options when it comes to getting to Méribel, but let me save you some hassle.
Chambéry Airport
Yes, it’s the closest, but it comes with its own set of headaches. We’ve had our fair share of disasters here, from being kicked out of a taxi halfway to the resort due to snow (we ended up trekking to a train station with all our gear) to endless delays and cancellations in the tiny airport with no seats. Flights to Chambéry are also less frequent, which isn’t ideal for flexibility.
Geneva Airport
Our top choice. It’s further away (about 45 minutes to an hour extra transfer time), but it’s reliable, better equipped for weather disruptions, and offers plenty of flight options for long weekends or extended trips. Trust me, the slightly longer transfer is worth avoiding the stress and chaos.
Which Ski Lifts to Use in Méribel
The ski lifts in Méribel can get intense during peak times, especially in the centre.
Avoid Méribel Centre in the Morning
Starting your day from Méribel Centre is like diving into a mosh pit. Not only will you have to walk a good distance (cars can’t get you too close), but you’ll be lugging all your gear while regretting that extra pain au chocolat you grabbed at breakfast. By the time you reach the lifts, you’ll already feel like you’ve run a marathon.
Golf-Lift from Méribel Village
Instead, head to Méribel Village and hop on the Golf-Lift. Here’s why:
• The lift is right next to a bus stop, making it super accessible from anywhere in Méribel.
• If you’ve got a driver, they can drop you off directly at the base of the lift—no trekking involved.
• Méribel Village is small, so if you’re staying nearby, it’s a quick 2-5 minute walk to the lift.
Oh, and did I mention the La Terrasse du Village après bar right by the Golf-Lift? It’s the best spot for a post-ski drink, with a great atmosphere and an unbeatable location.
From the top of the Golf-Lift, you can head left toward Courchevel or right into Méribel—both options are just 1-2 lifts and runs away.
Ski Rental in Méribel
If you need ski gear, Freeski in Méribel Centre is a no-brainer. They have a fantastic selection of the latest skis, like the Faction CT 2.0 and Black Crows, and their online pre-order system makes the pickup process seamless.
Their service is top-notch. Midweek swaps? No problem. Need your own skis serviced? Done with zero hassle. Honestly, we couldn’t have been happier with the experience.
Mountain Lunches in Méribel
Les Pierres Plates
Located at the top of the Saulire lift, this place offers incredible views over Méribel and Courchevel. The pizzas here are thin, crispy, and perfect for a mid-ski refuel—light enough to keep you going but delicious enough to satisfy. Pair it with their house red wine for the ultimate alpine lunch. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff seal the deal.
La Fruitière at Folie Douce
Folie Douce might not be for everyone, but if you know what to expect, it’s a fantastic experience. Go big on breakfast in the morning and plan for a late, indulgent lunch here. The Truffle Mac & Cheese is the star of the show, and pairing it with Whispering Angel rosé makes it even better. By the end of lunch, the party vibes will have taken over, so don’t expect to ski much afterward!
Le Blanchot
Right next to the Altiport, this is a must-visit for its picturesque terrace (weather permitting). The menu is solid across the board, but the real highlight is dessert—make sure you save room! The cozy fireplace inside is perfect for colder days, and the short ski back to the village after lunch is a bonus.
Après in Méribel
• La Terrasse du Village
Located in Méribel Village, this spot is our top pick for après. Great music, a lively atmosphere, and a killer terrace for sunny afternoons.
• Jack’s
Conveniently located in Méribel Centre by the taxi pickup point, Jack’s is perfect for a quick drink while waiting for your ride. The terrace is a sun trap, and the indoor area is cozy if the weather turns.
Extra Tips
• Courchevel Connection: From Méribel, getting to Courchevel is quick and easy. Start early to make the most of the day, and don’t forget to grab a map to plan your route back—getting stuck on the wrong side of the 3 Valleys at the end of the day isn’t fun.
• Lift Times: Always keep an eye on the clock, especially if you’re venturing further afield. Missing the last lift can mean a pricey taxi ride or a night in your ski gear.
Méribel offers the perfect mix of charm, convenience, and world-class skiing. Whether you’re here for the après, the food, or the slopes, you’re in for a treat. Have questions or need more recommendations? Drop me an email at info@waxx.co.uk. Happy skiing! 🎿🍷
